i2i Session: Kickoff to the “Intern to Intern” program

The Job:
I2I started as an idea to provide a professional social network in order to build a stronger Future Blue community. Each session will have a different theme and an intern expert will present and share their knowledge on the topic. This will be followed by a mediated, open-forum discussion for all the participants to take part and share in.

Name : Andrew Taehoon Kim

School : University of Toronto
Major : Computer Science Specialist and Math Major
Job Title : Information development and management. I work with developers to provide
technical documentation. The length of my internship is 16 months

What your typical day is like:
9:30 a.m. I walk in, start my laptop and grab a tea from the coffee station. The office is still quiet and I can hear the sound of keyboards clicking away next to me.

I start on status updates for my manager before the team meeting at 11:00 a.m. Some of the email from the Indian and SLV site has confirmed my work from last night. My hard work last night has paid off. Today is starting to be a good day.

11:00 a.m. I’ve walked in to my team meeting. A small group of managers and colleagues are chatting away, exchanging small conversation about their day before we call in to our video conference. Today’s conference is brief, discussing the update on our product and the timeline for our release.

12:00 p.m. After the meeting, I head to the IBM Toastmasters session offered at one of the conference room. I really have to think on my feet in this session, as it is quick paced and some of the senior managers from different departments are listening in on me. As I are starting to sweat, one of the manager cheerly jokes to my, saying that he was once sweating where I am sitting now. Continue reading
